FOLIO “Modern Baroque”

FOLIO “Modern Baroque”
“OrangeHOWELL, Modern Baroque”
The folio documents a site-specific visual study executed within the Hudson, New York home of the late poet and art critic John Ashbery. Created after onsite study of Baroque ornamentation that began at the American Academy in Rome, this project explores the intersection of historic ornamentation and physical interior space.
This work, an impermanent installation of vellum architectural sketches placed over patterned glass within an environment dense with mid-century furnishings, William Morris wallpapers, and vintage design objects. These translucent, light-diffused compositions serve as the foundational research for modern Baroque motifs handprinted as Rome Editions and OrangeHOWELL Textiles.
